some notes from Newsom’s press conference today ( there is one at noon daily ): A) 2000 PCR tests / day by end of March, 10000 / day by Apr 15th, 25k / day planned for end of April, 60-80k goal, 90k / day max given available machine capacity in the state. A recognition that this still might not be enough and a 1% of population / day mentioned as a wistful stretch goal; 100k swabs for tests donated by the Feds this week; 250k next week, B) 600 test sites planned, with 251 ‘core’ test sites. Gating items for test capacity swell: swabs, viral transport medium, rna reagent medium, C) 86 new testing sites: Verily (6), OptumServe (80), sp?, D) serology tests to monitor prevalence: 1.5 mil coming from Abbot labs for CA. 130 facilities, E) recent sero prevalence studies USC (Apr 10,11th), and SantaClara, F) hiring / retraining 10000 tracers, G) CA covid volunteer program ( google it ), H) LISTOS volunteer core ( google it )
