On the AI insanity …

the little that i gather on the subject suggests that linguists, i.e. folks interested in the structure of the language and consequence of that structure for the meaning communicated were NOT involved at ALL. this is remarkable and remarkably bad. this will likely have the same outcome as the so called computational fluid dynamics …. which produces equations discretized on a computer, a ‘high performance computing’ community and yet ‘serious’ people are still ‘studying’ turbulent flow in a god damned pipe. all of this to say, that dumb compute, can not and should not replace ‘analog compute’, i.e. the very fabric of the real and physical world. the prophet in me wants to finish with ‘the consequences of this … blah…’, but the book of Andrei has not gained wide currency yet. On yet another subtopic of big compute: try finding anything of personal consequence through google. Those ‘links’ will not be coming up. The AI nonsense is a face-saving attempt by a failing big-data business to undrown from a sea of data they cannot and do not want to understand.
